FOSSIL Technical Specifications
FOSSIL CHPL (Custom High Pressure Laminate) panels are solid composite panels engineered
using extreme heat and pressure, making them fire-retardant, moisture-resistant, and highly
resistant to UV rays, scratching, impact, and graffiti. Graphics are produced with our proprietary
FOSSILized Surface® and 12-Color HD Printing, both invented by FOSSIL, ensuring stunning image
quality and unmatched durability. Outdoor panels are protected with a 10-year UV inhibitor,
providing long-term performance in harsh environments. All FOSSIL products are entirely made in
the U.S.A. and available in thicknesses ranging from 0.038” to 1”.
Laminate Grades
General Description: 0.038” Laminate is manufactured with a smooth sub-surface image on one
side and a sanded surface on the other side to allow proper bonding to the supporting substrate.
Bonding FOSSIL laminate panels to substrate materials should be done according to the proven
principles of veneering. Particleboard and MDF are among the many suitable substrates on which a
FOSSIL laminate grade panels can be bonded. FOSSIL 0.038” panels can be formed to simple
bends and profiles and are suitable for practically all flat (horizontal or vertical) applications.
Solid Composite Panels
General Description: Available in thickness from .090″ to 1″ thick. Our 1/2″, 3/4″, and 1″ thick
grades are self-supporting, eliminating the need for an expensive frame. They can be fitted with
threaded inserts … perfect for easily attaching to post, walls and railings without visible hardware.

PRODUCT PROPERTIES:
Product Description:
CHPL (Custom High Pressure Laminate) Decorative Laminate consisting of decorative surface papers, impregnated with melamine resins, bonded under heat and pressure to kraft papers impregnated with phenolic resins.
NEMA:
FOSSIL CHPL (Custom High Pressure Laminate) panels exceed the standards for decorative laminates established by the National Electrical Manufacturers Association NEMA LD3-1991. These standards establish the minimum criteria for resistance to wear, boiling water, high temperature, cigarette burns, fading, dimensional stability, staining, appearance and formability (bending and postforming grades).
Chemical & Stain Resistant:
FOSSIL CHPL (Custom High Pressure Laminate) panels are perfectly suited for commercial use where chemical products are used. They are resistant to common house-hold products, solvents, mild alkalis, and diluted mild acids. Some staining agents, especially those with grease bases paint or ink, will require the use of a solvent for removal. Our top recommendation is Krud Gutter Graffiti Remover by Rust-Oleum®, an environmentally friendly product proficient in removing difficult stains like permanent marker and dried latex paint. Other recommended products include: Xylene Solvent; Kerosene; Turpentine; Lacquer Thinner; Mineral Spirts; Chromic Acid (30%); Hydroxide; Hydrochloric Acid and Sulfuric Acid (35%). Do not use Goof Off or MEK. Use of other solvents should be tested on a small, non-conspicuous area first. Use a soft cloth and follow cleaning agents procedure with a detergent rinse and a water rinse. If you are not satisfied with the result of the cleaning, repeat the procedure until the stain is removed. Be sure to follow the manufacturers suggestions.
Static Electricity:
FOSSIL CHPL (Custom High Pressure Laminate) panels do not store static electricity and are therefore suitable for use in controlled environments where accumulation and retention of static electricity must be avoided.
Fire Retardant:
FOSSIL CHPL (Custom High Pressure Laminate) interior panels are suitable for application where fire retardant properties are required by building codes.
